An Essie water marble

So, on account of my hours being reduced at work, I had a lot more time on my hands than I was really happy with. On the bright side, I had the time to play with some lacquer and work on my nail art techniques. It had been a while since I’d done a water marble and decided to have a fiddle. Sadly, up until this manicure, I’d been unable to produce an effective water marble: Still can’t tell whether it was human error or lacquer problems, but hey, I managed to achieve a decent looking one here, so I can’t complain too much.

Aside from the white base, which was OPI’s Alpine Snow, all the colours are Essie. The blue is definitely one of my favourites from all my lacquers, Coat Azure. The Pink (which shows up brighter than it actually is) is Your Hut Or Mine. It’s not visible on all nails, but there’s also a wee bit of Hot Coco in there too.

  1. I think I’ve done one decent water marble… and ended up smudging it before the top coat dried. haha

I need to grab Your Hut Or Mine.

    • Oh no! Hahaha. What a shame. Maybe next time you have a bit of time on your hands, you could try it again?

  2. I haven’t even attempted a water marble because I’ve seen just how terrible it can turn out. If I knew I’d get something that pretty out of it I’d probably give it a try, but I seriously doubt my skills. I do love Essie’s Your Hut or Mine, though.

    • It’s definitely a fiddly process, and one that you kind of have to have a lot of patience and time for. It’s fun though, and interesting, but definitely a waste of polish :(

  3. That’s really beautiful. I’ve never seen anyone do that themselves. I might paint my nails again if I had any chance of them turning out like that!

    • Definitely give it a go! there are some great tutorials on youtube and it’s surprisingly simple!

    • I think with the patterns, it’s more about having as few strokes through the polish? I find when I do too many, it just gets messy.

Thanks so much for your comments, Rachel :)

  4. I really need to get off my ass and try water marbling one of these days. Even my husband is bugging me to do it (he knows my love for nail polish heh)!

    • Do it! Just be sure to do it when you’ve got about an hour, maybe 2 to yourself. Distractions make it SO hard to get it done.
