Instant Chemistry

Instant Chemistry is from the China Glaze Magnetix collection. It’s a deep purple with an excellent formula. I found I only needed one coat to fully cover the nail, which is a plus when you’re working with magnetic polish.

To apply, you have to lay down a coat of the polish, then, while the polish is still wet, hold the magnet close to the nail for around 20 seconds so it can pull the iron powder up to the surface.   A piece of advice – work one nail at a time so you don’t have to worry about the polish drying before you can get a magnet above it.

My one drawback doesn’t concern the polish – it’s the magnet.  Sold separately, the China Glaze magnet has three patterns:  chevron, diagonal stripe, and star (see the magnet here).  Despite being an extra expense on top of the polish, I like having more than one design option, which is all you get when the magnet is attached to the top of the bottle.

What didn’t I like?  The magnets seem weak, making it difficult to create a crisp pattern on the nail.  I had to hold the magnet above my nails a bit longer than the instructed time, which can be a pain if you have shaky hands.

Hopefully, it’s a matter of ‘practice makes perfect’ and I’ll master the technique after a while.  If so, I’ll report back!

  1. This collection is definitely one that i’d be interested in trying. And, ever the science teacher, I’d be able to use it in class when teaching year 9’s about metals. Aw yeah!
